The heliski season 2012: Two helicopters are better than one!
The opening of the third season at the end of January was marked by wonderful news which lifted the mood of every heli-skiing enthusiast. Firstly, the was an unprecedented amount of fresh fluffy powder snow, enough to say confidently that the unpleasantness of the previous year and its insufficient snow levels could now be forgotten. Secondly, we now had at our disposal two first-class Eurocopter AS350 B3 helicopters, our old faithful black HB-ZES and a bright red OE-XBC new arrival. Two helicopters are better than one offering as they do more flights, more satisfaction, more heli-skiing. This much was confirmed in the first week by the camera crew of the Russian RidethePlanet project who took incredible shots of Svaneti and Gudauri. The most vivid parts of the film were the head-spinning pirouettes carried out by our helicopters.
The weather was wonderful all the way into April: bright sunny days alternated with brief but intense snow fall, regularly adding to the fresh snow topping the slopes of the entire skiing region. Sometimes there were so many people wanting to use the helicopters that a long queue formed at the entrance to our office, still in its traditional location on the second floor of the Gudauri Marco Polo hotel. We did everything in our power to make sure everyone had a chance to heli-ski! ;))
