Safe heli-skiing: Our obligations for your health and safety

As extreme sports, freeriding and heli-skiing are associated with risks to one’s health and even life, which is why they require special attention on the mountain slopes and strict adherence to the safety rules and recommendations of professional and experienced instructors. You will be accompanied by our UIAGM certified guides at all times, on and off-piste. Your guides are always ready to come to your assistance and minimize any possible risk factors.

We do our best to make the right decisions at the right time: our guides not only have excellent off-piste skiing techniques, they also have a detailed knowledge of the area and the skills needed in extreme circumstances.

We guarantee responsible management of your daily program: our guides hold meetings three times a day and constantly consult the weather conditions in their choice of the best routes and provision of safe and suitable ski slopes. What is more, specialists at the weather station in Gudauri estimate the level and safety of snow on the surrounding mountain slopes on a daily basis.

In order to ensure your comfort and safety we use the most modern and reliable safety equipment and repeatedly increase the safety measures for skiing in order to minimize the consequences of potential accidents.

An avalanche transceiver (beeper) is a special device used to help find people caught in an avalanche. Anyone who is in the mountains, whether they are a mountain hiker, skier or snowboarder must have an avalanche transceiver, regardless of whether they are on or off-piste.

An avalanche tube (probe) is a special rescue tool, used to probe the thickness of snow when searching for missing people. An avalanche tube is a folding stick between two to four meters long, the sections of which are made from alloy steel, aluminum alloy, fiberglass or carbon. The probe includes a steel or Kevlar rope which is pulled to stiffen the tube.

An avalanche spade is a light and easy-to-use spade made from carbon or aluminum, usually with an extendible handle, used to shovel snow when searching for people missing in an avalanche.

An avalanche airbag is a light and compact backpack with a safety airbag, designed to prevent the skier from being buried under snow in the event of an avalanche.

In addition to the on-site rescue equipment, our guides can contact a rescue team, doctor and ambulance as soon as the need arises. In the event that medical assistance is required, a helicopter will bring the injured person to the Tbilisi hospital, with which Heliksir has a valid medical aid agreement, within twenty minutes.
